The Rome Premature Jibulation Contest was held Saturday the 6th at Brighton Ski resort. The set up was at the bottom of Candyland and consisted of a corrugated tube followed by a flat double barrel rail. To the left of this option was two flat boxes set up with one to the left of the other, so you had to pop from one to the other in a sort of step-up-sideways type deal. The contestants really seemed to like this feature. After the box set-up, was a flat bar. Judging the contest was Danny Buller, aka Rat Ass, Jesse Anderson, aka Demo Jesse, and my self, Sam Spedale. We saw some crazy tricks attempted, a couple slams, and a good amount of bangers stomped. Everything from backside three to 5-0, to swirlly bird nollie backside Indonesian Coat-hangers went down. The riders were all jacked up on free Vitamin Waters, Monster Energy Drinks, I saw a PBR or 12 in there, and delicious hot dogs. What a mix. In the end Tristan took the 1st prize, a Rome Cheap Trick snowboard. Tristan seemed to be the most consistent rider with some of the smoothest tricks. 2nd Place was Brandon Hobush, with some real smooth presses and style that made the ladies scream. 3rd place went to Sam another real consistent rider with some proper tricks under his belt. Madison Blackly took it for the ladies with consistent cab 180 to 5-0 to backside 180 out, and cleaning all the rails with nose presses and 5-0’s. 9-year-old Taylor was killing the boxes and rails as well so we decided to award her with stand out female award. Overall the contest went really well. I’d like to thank Jared Winkler (Brighton Head Park Staff) and the rest of Brighton’s park staff for a sick set up and all their time. See you next year.
